The Weeknd Nominated for mtvU Woodie Award

MTV announced their nominations for the 2012 mtvU Woodie Awards this morning and amongst the nominees is The Weeknd. He has been nominated for a Breaking Woodie as a newcomer to the music scene.

If you don’t already know it, the mtvU Woodie Awards honor and highlight the ‘best’ music as voted by the US college audience. The 2012 mtvU Woodie Awards will be hosted in Austin, Texas this year, during the South by Southwest Music Festival on Sunday, March 18 at 8PM EST.

Drake and The Weeknd

In an interview released today, Drake told NahRight about his plans for The Weeknd and OVOXO in 2012. Below is an excerpt from the article:

The Weeknd - The Zone (Ft. Drake)

The Weeknd and Drake are at it again, pushing forth with the OVOXO movement. Production for The Weeknd’s second official music video, The Zone, has begun.  Toronto’s very own Lamar Taylor, who directed the visuals for Marvin’s Room, Headlines, and The Motto with Hyghly, will be directing this video as well.

In typical Weeknd fashion, there is no release date for the video… but you can check back here for more details shortly. An OVOXO family affair… Shouts to Complex.

Warner Tries to Sign The Weeknd x Project in the Works

In an interview with MTV News, Rich Hil revealed that he collaborated on six songs off The Weeknd’s upcoming project. Additionally, Rich Hil speaks on signing with Warner Music and added that Warner tried to sign The Weeknd as well.

The Weeknd - Coachella 2012

Last year, the biggest names in the music industry performed at Coachella 2011. This year, The Weeknd continues his takeover as he is set to perform at Coachella 2012.
